Block Printing - with natural Dyes with Kate Ryan

 

 

 

 

 


Printing with Natural Dyes  - investigate the wonderful world of Indian block prints using traditional methods with plants and iron to make repeating patterns on fabric - a workshop for anyone interested in learning how to use nature to create beautiful textiles.

 

2 day workshop £155 10am-4pm 28th - 29th March 2020 - sold out

2 day workshop £155 10am -4pm 17th -18th October 2020 

Day One - introduction to working with natural dyes and printing with wooden blocks - mordanting fabric with myrobalan - making pastes for block printing - alum, iron and mud - printing fabric with alum paste - printing fabric with mud paste

 

Day Two - preparation of indigo dye vat - prepare madder bath - dye alum printed fabric in madder and dye mud printed fabric in indigo - print myrobalan mordanted fabric with fermented iron dye

 

Kate teaches everything by demonstrating and will provide notes for the participants to take away.

 

Participants can expect to complete a metre of fabric.

Includes, all materials & equipment, tea & coffee. Please bring pack lunch, apron & rubber gloves.

Drop in Spinning - not suitable for beginners 
1st Monday of each month 7-9pm £10 Next date feb 3rd 2020 - please note there is no spinning in March 2020
2nd Friday of each month 7-9pm £10 TBC

 

Spinning taster session - perfect for beginners or those wanting to brush up on skills 
Book a time to suit. suitable for 1-3 people maximum. 2 hours £35pp incl fibres and equipment

Weaving Thursday

2nd Thursday of each month is weaving Thursday 6.30-9pm. We will be back in the Loom Room on 9th April 2020

we will be exploring all kinds of weaving, the sessions will be run on an open basis, group decisions... welcome for all including people new to weaving. Bring your own projects or borrow equipment. £10-15 (dependent on materials used!). The idea with weaving Thursday is to create a sharing weaving community for playful experimental weaving. Ideal for beginners & those with lots of experience. tapestry weaving, inkle loom, creative weaving, 4 shaft weaving.

Knit & Natter 1st Tuesday of each month 10-12am - Modern Kitchen Kenilworth () - Its a lovely relaxed session suitable for all and the coffee and cakes in this smashing independent coffee shop... will entice you back again and again. please email me with your whatsapp contact to keep upto date.  Next meet up April 2020

NEW SOCK knitting workshop! learn to knit a pair of socks over a 4 evening session - 2nd, 16th, 30th April & 7th May. £58pp including our beautiful BFL sock yarn worth £18. You will need to bring your own needles 2.5mm 4 pins. Sock Knitting is the ideal project for the summer months, its small, perfect to take on holidays - and you can knit on the airplane too! WARNING - its addictive! £20 deposit required.

using stitch and clamping - explore shibori and dipping into a simple indigo vat
